One of Worcester’s oldest buildings is the place to go for Halloween activities!
The Commandery, Worcester is one of the oldest buildings in the city and has over 800 years of history, making it one of the best places to go for spooky activities this October.
From Saturday 23 through to Sunday 31 October there will be safe Spooktacular events for all the family to enjoy during the half term break. Children of all ages can enjoy Wicked Witch Week when they can follow the Witches Potion Trail and help Willa the Witch find the ingredients for her creepy concoction and take part in Wicked Witch craft activities which are fun for everyone.
For Grown Ups there are the famous Commandery Ghost Tours when visitors can tour The Commandery by torchlight to discover the ghostly secrets of one of Worcester’s most haunted buildings. From starting life out as a monastic hospital in the Middle Ages to later becoming the Royalist Headquarters during the Battle of Worcester in 1651, The Commandery has seen its fair share of bloodshed and the macabre. A number of rumours surround the building’s supernatural mysteries. Get to know the history of The Commandery, learn about odd sightings and hear about the more macabre side of one of Worcester’s most well-known landmarks. Keep your eyes peeled and make your own mind up as to the paranormal activities said to have taken place over the years.
Ghost Tours will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 28 – 30 October at 6.30pm and 8pm. Tickets are £12.50 each and can be pre-booked at Ghost Tours of The Commandery or call into the Commandery Museum Shop. The tours are not suitable for anyone under 16.
Helen Manning, events and activities co-ordinator, comments “The Commandery is the perfect place to enjoy Halloween activities, whether it’s for fun children’s activities or something spookier for the grown-ups, we hope everyone will have fun visiting The Commandery this October half term.”
Visitors can also enjoy the independent Commandery Coffee canal side Café, take a stroll together in the gardens and younger visitors will enjoy the natural play area with its own mud kitchen.
Families can enjoy the witches trail and craft activities for just £2 per person (standard admission also applies), and Worcester residents can enjoy year-round visits to The Commandery with the resident passes just £5.50 for individuals or £13 for a family.
All details of the Halloween events and the resident passes can be found on The Commandery Facebook page and their website, www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk or call 01905 361821.
