Visitors to the opening of the exhibition Dinosaurs on the Doorstep at Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum on Saturday 13 July will be able to meet Magnus, the museum’s resident dinosaur, as well as enjoying family activities in a morning of dinosaur-filled fun to mark the opening of the exhibition which is on throughout the summer holidays.
Dinosaurs on the Doorstep highlights the many dinosaurs which roamed Britain. More than 100 species of dinosaurs have been found in the UK and the exhibition features impressive skeletons and real fossils from 150 million years ago. Visitors will come face to face with harmless herbivores to terrifying tyrannosaurs, from the smallest to the largest and from teeth to tail bones, jaws and claws, food to fossilised poo. Visitors can see and touch real dinosaur fossils, and find out who ate whom!
Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum Curator Claire Cheshire said: “We’re looking forward to celebrating the opening of Dinosaurs on the Doorstep, which is a must-see for all fans of dinosaurs, whatever their ages. We think people may be surprised at the number of British dinosaurs that have been found, and how impressive their skeletons and fossils are. We’re really excited to show this new exhibition and get people interested in the world around us and beneath our feet.”.
The exhibition includes hand-on activities such as dinosaur discovery camp and a dino-scientist station.
There is a full programme of dinosaur-themed events and activities to keep visitors entertained throughout the summer. The Museum Shop has a wonderful array of dinosaur-themed gifts and souvenirs, and Little Al’s Kitchen at the Balcony Café is the perfect spot for re-fuelling hungry explorers.
Dinosaurs on the Doorstep is free and will be open Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm and Sunday 10am – 3pm from 13 July to 8 September. For more information contact the Art Gallery and Museum on 01905 25371 OR visit www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk or follow @worcestermuseum
