For Immediate Release

Monday 22 July 2024

Now that school is out and the summer is stretching ahead, there’s plenty going on at The Commandery in Worcester to entertain children throughout the school holidays. From crafts to circus skills, there is plenty to keep kids busy, and with the whole site to explore including the nature play area, trails and Worcester’s Civil War Story display families can visit for an entire day out, or just drop in for the craft activities.

With a different theme every week in the summer holidays, children can enjoy popular family activity mornings filled to the brim with hands-on fun.

Inspired by the deep blue sea, children can create their own marine animals to take home and carry out their own science experiment in Amazing Oceans week. Medieval Quest week offers the exciting opportunity to learn how to fire a trebuchet (a type of catapult) in The Commandery’s gardens, designing their own regal crown, and enjoy games outside.

Finally, in Fairytale Adventures week children can make their own fairy, create a big bad wolf mask, and follow a trail around The Commandery – discovering the medieval Painted Chamber, Civil War armour and the huge Tudor bed.

Every session ends with a story, drink and a biscuit. Aimed at children from pre-school ages to 10 years. The mornings run Tuesdays to Thursdays, 10.30am – 12noon, from 23 July to 29 August, £5 per child. Please visit the website for dates and to book: museumsworcestershire.org.uk. General admission to The Commandery applies to all visitors and can be paid for on arrival or booked online in advance.

On Bank Holiday Monday 26 August, families can have fun together with a brilliant day of circus skills workshops and performances. Workshops will run at 10.30am and 1.30pm, and performances from 12noon and 3pm. The event is free with general admission to The Commandery; no booking is required.

“With lots to do inside and out The Commandery is the perfect place to spend the summer holidays whatever the weather. There’s plenty of history to explore and lots to do so it makes for a lovely day out,” Helen Manning, Events and Activities Coordinator at The Commandery.

Anyone with a season or Worcester Residents’ pass gets free admission to the Commandery (£5 per child for the family morning still applies). With so much going on it’s the perfect opportunity to purchase a residents pass and enjoy all the Commandery has to offer throughout the summer.

Brand-new independent café Little Al’s Kitchen at The Commandery is open with its lovely canal-side garden, offering ice cream, toasties, crumpets, homemade cakes, and more.
