Heritage Open Day | new exhibition Connections opens
Saturday 14 September, 10am – 4pm | Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum
Heritage Open Days celebrates Worcester’s heritage from 6 – 15 September 2024.
Join us for the opening of the exhibition, Connections – The Worcester City Collection, in Conversation with the Community.
This exciting and thought-provoking exhibition features artworks from Worcester’s own collection, selected by community groups in 2023 and 2024. On show will be unexpected treasures and old favourites including John Collier’s ‘Clytemnestra’ (c. 1914) and ‘Market Day’ (1907) by William Frank Calderon. The exhibition explores people’s different responses to art and the emotions and perspectives it can evoke.
Get involved! Throughout the opening day you can help us to make a community artwork by creating a joint collage linked to one of our artworks. This will then be displayed in the activity space while Connections is open.
There will be 10-minute ‘spotlight’ talks in the exhibition discussing one of the artworks on display. These will be at 10.30 and 11.30am, and 1.30 and 2.30pm.
There will also be live music to enjoy as part of Worcester Music Festival and a trail for children to take part in (£1, purchase from the museum shop).
Entry is free. Plan your visit to Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum.
