Spotlight Talk: the British Impressionism Gallery

Saturday 28 June, 11am – 12noon | Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum

A new permanent gallery is under development at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum.

The future art gallery will explore the emergence, development, and legacy of a magical moment in art history: British Impressionism.

In this talk, Natasha Wilcockson, Curatorial and Exhibitions Assistant, will take you through some of artworks and themes planned for this space. She’ll explore newly acquired works by French Impressionists Camille Pissarro and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, as well as works by Worcester favourites such as David Cox, Benjamin Williams Leader, Stanhope Forbes, Julius Olsson, Harry Adams, David Bates, and Dame Laura Knight.

Hear about the pigments used in Impressionist art practice, the ‘magic’ of the Malvern Festival, and the challenging questions raised by our contemporary art collection.

This gallery was conceptualised and supported by Professor Rolf Olsen, who founded the Worcestershire Heritage, Art and Museums charity in 2022. Rolf wanted to support the enhancement of cultural life in Worcester, the home that he and his late wife Shirley had loved for over 20 years.
