Improvements to Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, 2024 to 2027

Work is taking place over the next three years to improve visitor facilities, introduce new displays and create brand-new galleries for the permanent collection.

Although there may be disruption at times, this work will improve the museum for all of our visitors, and it will remain open with temporary exhibitions, Little Al’s at the Balcony Café and the Museum Shop.

Here’s what is planned:

2024

Improving public toilets - phase 1 | Monday 9 September to Friday 18 October 2024

Upgrading public toilets including improvements to support people with disabilities and access needs.

How will this affect my visit? There will be limited public toilets while work takes place.

Please get in touch with the team if you have any questions before your visit:

Upgrading the lift | Wednesday 8 January - Friday 28 March 2025

The lift which services the ground floor from Taylor’s Lane up to the galleries will be upgraded.

How will this affect my visit? The lift at the Taylor’s Lane entrance, at the side of the Art Gallery and Museum, will be unavailable during this time.

We apologise that these improvements will temporarily limit access for some visitors and aim to complete the development as quickly as possible.

Please get in touch with the team if you have any questions before your visit:

Installation of new display, Your Worcester | Monday 13 January - March 2025

Building work to Museum Gallery and installation of new display Your Worcester.

This exciting new display shows Worcester’s heritage presented in the words of those that know it best: the people who live in the ‘Faithful City’. This new display will be a permanent part of the museum exhibitions.

How will this affect my visit? The Museum Gallery will temporarily be closed; this includes Steward’s Chemist Shop. There will be limited access to the Activity Space during this period.
