Summer fun at The Commandery

Tuesdays to Thursdays, 10.30am – 12noon, in the summer holidays

The Commandery’s family mornings are here all summer long!

Through the holidays, children can enjoy creative activities, fun family trails, listen to stories, have fun in the gardens and more in Amazing Oceans, Medieval Quest, and Fairytale Adventures.

Every session ends with a story, drink and a biscuit. Aimed at children from pre-school ages to 10 years.

Admission info

Family mornings are £5 per child, which you can book online. General admission to The Commandery applies to all visitors and can be paid for on arrival or booked online too.

You can get free admission to The Commandery if you have a season or Worcester Residents’ pass (£5 per child for the session still applies) – find out more and plan your visit. Your ticket can be upgraded on the day!

Bank Holiday Monday 26 August

Circus entertainer Steve Kaos is at The Commandery for one day only! 🎪

Head out into the beautiful gardens for day of circus skills workshops and performances:

  • Workshop | 10.30 – 11.30am
  • Performance | 12noon
  • Workshop | 1.30 – 2.30pm
  • Performance | 3pm

You can explore The Commandery with the fun circus-themed family trail (£1), and see how many things you can tick off the top 10 highlights list while you’re at it!

Performances run for approx. 40 minutes.

At Worcestershire County Museum at Hartlebury Castle

Summer holidays, 11am – 4pm | Worcestershire County Museum at Hartlebury Castle

Families can enjoy a fantastic day out and summer fun with themed crafts, activities and trails every week through the holidays!

  • Beside the sea family trail | from Sunday 14 July to Sunday 1 September (50p or included with summer crafts)
  • Sandpit fun – new for summer 2024 | from Tuesday 23 July to Sunday 1 September (included in admission)
  • Summer crafts | Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 30 July to 22 August (Whole-site admission + £3.50.)

Refreshments are available from the café and picnic areas with accessible benches are available. Enjoy the grounds, follow the historic moat trail, and have fun on the woodland adventure play area!

At Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum

Dinosaurs on Our Doorstep!

It’s a fantastic summer of DINOSAURS at the Art Gallery and Museum as free exhibition Dinosaurs on the Doorstep roars into the city from Saturday 13 July!

Saturday 13 July

Say hello to our resident dinosaur Magnus, check out the new exhibition, and enjoy fun family activities from 10.30am – 12.30pm!

Free entry; £1 for family trail available from the shop.

Saturday 20 July to Sunday 8 September

Get creative with these bags of fun and make your own flapping Pterodactyl, a T-rex peg puppet and Ichthyosaur fossil art.

Each bag has multiple themed activities inside, and the Activity Space in the museum is fully equipped for young creatives to get going on their making.

£2.50; purchase from the shop. Free entry to Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum (closed Mondays).

Saturday 13 July – Sunday 8 September

Do you know the difference between a diplodocus and a t-rex?

Put your dinosaur knowledge to the test and see if you can match the dinosaurs to their silhouettes.

£1; purchase from the shop.

Thursdays 18 July and 15 August, 4 – 5pm

Spend a ‘roarsome’ evening with us and our dinosaur friends, be introduced to the cutest baby dinosaurs that you will ever meet and learn some fun facts about them. Then be prepared to come face to face with a full-size walking, roaring Velociraptor who is hopefully not too hungry!

£6 per ticket.

Every Wednesday from  24 July  – 28 August, 10.30 – 11am

Get up close to real fossils from the museum’s natural history collection and discover fascinating creatures of the past in this half-hour session.

Bring along all your biggest questions!

These sessions are on weekly through the summer holidays and are £2.50 per child. The exhibition is free to visit.

These sessions are aimed at 7 to 11 year olds.

Every Thursday from 25 July – 29 August 2024, 10.30 – 11.30am

Inspired by the dinos and their habitats you discover in the exhibition, experiment with lots of different art materials to create your own dinosaur scene. Make stamps to print onto your designs too!

These workshops are on weekly through the summer holidays and are £4.50 per child. The exhibition is free to visit.

Wednesday 28 August, 4 – 5pm

Travel back in time to the age of the dinosaurs and go to a roar-some dino disco! You’ll be able to show off your best dinosaur dance moves as well as taking part in prehistoric themed games.

The disco is aimed at children under 8 years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

£6 per child; free entry for children under 2 years old.
